Biography

Dr. Sharma received his medical degree at the University of Alberta in 2006 and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at McMaster University in 2011. Following residency, he completed a complex primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty fellowship at Western University and a foot and ankle fellowship at McMaster University. Concurrent with his foot and ankle fellowship, Dr. Sharma fulfilled the requirements of a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Research at McMaster University.

Dr. Sharma is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary, a member of the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health and the Research Lead for Hip and Knee Arthroplasty in Calgary. He is a full time academic orthopaedic surgeon and Clinical Associate Program Lead at the Peter Lougheed Hospital with a practice focusing on hip and knee arthroplasty.

Dr. Sharma continues to be active in research within the Division of Orthopaedics at the University of Calgary and has published in a number of peer reviewed journals and contributed to several book chapters. His research is currently focused on hip and knee arthroplasty, with additional focus on the anterior approach hip arthroplasty and rapid discharge hip and knee arthroplasty. He is passionate about properly evaluating new innovations to provide the best outcomes for patients, evidenced through his numerous contributions to and involvement with the research community.

Dr Sharma lectures nationally and internationally in the areas of hip and knee replacements. He has taught many cadaveric courses in Canada and United States on topics including Direct Anterior Hip Replacement, Same Day Hip and Knee Replacements and Uncemented Total Knee Replacements.

He is supported by a wonderful wife and three children.
