Dr. Lategan brings more than two decades of experience in orthopedic surgery, with a particular focus on hip and knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Lategan completed his medical training in South Africa, where he initially worked as a family physician in private practice before specializing in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Stellenbosch, graduating in 1999. During his specialist training, he was a recipient of the Smith & Nephew Travelling Fellowship and completed an ISAKOS Knee Fellowship, further developing his expertise in knee surgery.
Following his training, Dr. Lategan began private practice at Panorama MediClinic in Cape Town.
In 2004, he was recruited by the former Aspen Health Region to establish an orthopedic program in Westlock, Alberta, with the goal of improving access to care and addressing the hip and knee surgical waitlists. The program has since grown significantly and now includes three orthopedic surgeons providing trauma and arthroplasty care to both rural and urban patients.
After more than 22 years of providing hip and knee replacement surgery within Alberta’s public healthcare system, Dr. Lategan will join Acumen in January 2027.
At Acumen, his practice will continue to focus on advanced hip and knee replacement surgery, including minimally invasive hip arthroplasty and robotic-assisted knee arthroplasty, bringing his extensive surgical experience to patients seeking specialized orthopaedic care.
